Church Mission

Church Mission

Our Mission
It is healthy and necessary from time to time to stand back and to look at who and what we are, to ask exactly what we are about, where we are heading and what our goals are.

We, as a PCC, have done just this. We have looked at our church and our wider community and have asked ourselves where we stand and what we can do to bring the love of God into our everyday world, thereby being a part of a happy, welcoming and active church and community.

Vision (for five years' time)

Westoning church is a church for all the people in the community. All are welcome. It proclaims the good news of Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and its members share the love of God in word and deed.

Revelations 3:8 "I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no-one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name."

Priorities (for the next five years)

  • To love, sustain, support and equip our gathered family, by feeding them with God's word, worshipping together, equipping through training and teaching, developing through application and the release of gifting. The gathered family will be nurtured by way of support and encouragement. There will be care and rest for the existing congregation. This is achieved in a variety of ways including preaching, home groups, Alphas, Quiet days, prayer ministry, conferences, training etc.
  • To be an equipping church in the community. As an equipping church we are best able to fulfil the Great Commission. This is achieved by going into the community, into business/work place, into our immediate community, into local government, schools, mum's groups, men's breakfasts etc., sharing, influencing, impacting and securing change, all in the context of Christian values and living God's love. This priority is the practical application of what has been achieved and what will be achieved through priority 1.
  • To meet God's wider family including his prodigals and to welcome them. As we live and work in the community we are able to draw alongside others, praying for them, witnessing to them in word and action, seeking to encourage them into a place of enquiring/commitment and subsequently drawing them into the church community. For obvious practical reasons this may involve encouraging those we have drawn alongside to attend a church that is convenient to their home and that may not necessarily be in Westoning. We should all be encouraged to witness to others no matter where we are geographically. St Mary Magdalene's role is then to be a resource to advance the Kingdom of God.

Goals (for the next year)

  • To provide more opportunity for prayer and see more people praying together.
  • To survey Kingdom needs for our village and our capacity to serve.
  • To worship and to meet for courses on more occasions in the village.
  • To progress with the campaign for the Parish Room, spearheaded by prayer, planning and funding.
  • To bring more modern music and hymns/songs into Sunday morning worship.

We all need to deepen our understanding of God and to strive each day for a right relationship with him. We need to put our belief into action, to enrich and transform ourselves, our church, our community and our world, thereby making new disciples, both young and old, for God. May we all be liberated by the Good News of Jesus Christ.
